Biguanides Description: An antibacterial and anti-plaque agent against Streptococcus mutans, Actinomyces viscosus, and Actinomyces naesludii. Alexidine is an alkyl bis(biguanide) antiseptic which has been used in mouthwashes to eliminate plaque forming microorganisms. Alexidine differs chemically from chlorhexidine in possessing ethylhexyl end groups.
